Hi. i may be just doing something silly but does anyone know why i might be getting a gap between the node and the child layers when i mouseover?

Check "levelofs" properties: global one and submenu's one. If this will not help you to resolve the issue, then send your menuitems.js to jssupport@cooldev.com (as attachment, please - antiviral software will bark all over the Internet).
